How does the Bar Council ensure transparency and accountability in its operations? Could these processes need to be put at risk in the future? In this issue we are concerned with how Bar Council implemented the draft reports from the Committee. In doing so, we explore how they created inconsistent and incomplete information. In addition, it appears that this breakdown may not have been accurate. We would suggest that it deserves careful attention (and perhaps would appreciate the importance of further clarification of the document). As we reported in March, last year the Committee put forward a review of the documents and procedures for the parliamentary election and the Labour Party campaign concerning the political party’s proposals. A similar review in 2016 appeared in recent months. In 2017 and 2018 however, there was a very substantial gap of approximately 20 comments as to their design. We have many reasons for our suspicions and to be cautious of mistakes. We call on you to seek a more authoritative, more thorough review on the way in which the Committee may have acted. What is our aim in this issue? The Bar Council has long been something of an anti-establishment camp of the past. It is quite clear from a cultural, political, journalistic and institutional analysis that the formation of a parliamentary group of MPs – a group that serves a significant stake in the political party – has been against the interests of political parties from both within Australia and abroad. But to an extent at least, this has been achieved for the last few years in a way that we believe is quite well within the bounds of acceptable debate. For three years now, as things stood at the end of 2016 the leadership committee has been in consultation with the new prime minister that was elected there to carry out the government’s primary agenda and launch a new programme of economic innovation. In response, the Committee has also conducted an investigation into the work (including its predecessors) that led to the establishment of the party’s new parliamentary group. As I described to the Press earlier this month, this investigation is funded with the advice of the Prime Minister, Mr Ted Marmot. As I point out, it appears that there has remained little agreement about the best way to ensure that the group’s work has been directed towards ensuring transparency — while at the same time addressing what the new prime minister perceived it was to be a successful development of the party’s work. We found that, at times, the recommendations this article that investigation were contradictory. As I described to the press earlier this month, the report from the opposition Labor Party from 2018 contained many wrong and misleading ones. It would be incorrect to say that the report “clearly showed” my website they had been operating against the interests of the Australian Party (AP) and its constituent members. Indeed in prior years the criticism and suggestion from the two previous national leaders at the Australian House of Representatives were to believe that they had not been conducting properly.
