I don’t have a lot of experience when it comes to dealing with rental disputes in Pakistan, but it didn’t take long for me to start seeing patterns and issues when it comes to rental law. I was introduced into this field when I worked alongside one advocate (whom I won’t reveal), who seemed to relish in giving unclear instructions to their clients and constantly belittling their capabilities. Eventually, our colleague stepped down and I had more room to do my own thing. This particular issue, and the lack of support in our team gave me a chance to explore new horizons in advocacy. We tried our level best to resolve his cases with his respective parties.

Darn! Lead-In: Being from Karachi and having dealt with property disputes myself on numerous occasions, here’s what happened. My war story As an avid consultant for rental law cases all across Pakistan, one cannot know better than myself. In 2009 I represented a landlord, Ahmed Khan in court when the disputed rent was only around three lakhs PKR a month. He was claiming that one of his tenants refused the monthly installments, resulting in a six-year court battle that put Khan financially in trouble. We knew this wouldn’t be easy. As one of Karachi’s finest advocates I was sure that our best shot of solving the disputed payment is through mediation. This proved to be more tedious than expected, and we ultimately ended up on the court floor with one of the most difficult tenants. In 2016 I consulted for the renter and her family after her landlord tried to take the rental deposit she paid. With the case study attached and the case in mind, my first concern would have been going down the litigation path to get some money back from the defunct deposit. As always in litigation path it could have taken the course like an emotional roller coaster as I know it has for other people dealing with similar legal disputes around them.
