Last month I received a cold email claiming that an online fraudster owed me thousands of Pak Rupees. Of course, this type of stuff happens often. As someone trying to do the right thing, the idea seemed harmless enough. Someone just needs their head straightening out, which is fine but what do they want us to pay thousands of Rps for when our budgets are already tight?! But, as luck would have it, Legal Shark comes in and helps us resolve this issue once and for all, and all was well. This whole ordeal was handled seamlessly, professionally, and they managed

### “Who does commercial fraud”? My Story
My partner and I had a small, independent retail business that we ran online through Ebauboiz. We were running low on funding for marketing efforts when we started to notice customers receiving products late for days and customers demanding a refund without reason. It happened often. I mean, it really happens more in our industry, but people started to suspect fraud – go to the website with good reason given how our shipping process worked. We sent it in batches with different carriers based on volume. Now that I understand more in terms of fraudulent activities, I don’t see these incidences anymore. Our operations in general has been vastly better over the past year since partnering with Legal Shark. My favorite Legal Shark lawyer was Umm Abdul Qutub, I loved her communication. She helped our business resolve an issue with delayed and canceled shipments – I guess you could call that fraud if you really dug into it – where several of our batches were being lost during transportation between our warehouse and distributors in Karachi. I have so much gratitude towards her professional service in guiding us

Body (paragraphs divided into section, subheadings, bullet points): When I first moved to Pakistan I had no real clue about how things really worked, or how businesses got things done. That’s why, the last few years ago, as someone looking to build up a new practice in one of Pakistan’s most complex and diverse cities, understanding the nuances of the legal aspects of commercial financial crime in general – but also those relevant specifically to Pakistan was so urgent. To be frank, there are dozens of cases, stories and myths, which I have read over and I have talked to my professional partners here in the business in a way of understanding better who has to do with the subject.

“Who is responsible for identifying and preventing fraud in commercial transactions in Karachi?”
As an experience attorney in this city, I’ve helped my clients protect themselves against various forms of financial fraud. There’s an inherent trust when conducting business or commercial transactions. We expect individuals who represent a business entity or involved as buyers, sellers, etc., would maintain confidentiality or accuracy of details discussed or exchanged, otherwise, a deal is likely not made. And what we see from our court cases, unfortunately, some don’t hold true. The issue lies, of course, in those very details being dishonest or manipulated in such a way the resultant harm is significant in both financial loss and reputational damage. So, who handles fraud in commercial transactions in Karachi? I recently assisted
The Anti-Corruption Commission of Pakistan (ACCP) handles fraud in commercial transactions in Karachi.
The article that I wrote in Karachi focuses on how our local legal system can address the problematic issue of fraud in commercial transactions. We all understand just how important it is that buyers, sellers and their associated professionals trust one another in any type of transaction—whether in real estate, automotive or entertainment. Unfortunately, as with anything, not everyone operates ethically. Fraud affects businesses in a range of fields with huge financial ramifications—they might take a nip out of profits, which makes life and future deals difficult for organizations who have experienced fraudsters. So, the question becomes; Who will deal with these sorts of deceits if they can be reported? Is a government organization responsible, and should other players, like companies and corporations be taking an active role too to address this? Here are three reasons why understanding the who’s behind it can guide prevention strategies. Understanding Who Handles This: Firstly; A comprehensive government regulator is the key point of contact to understand what resources could potentially help your case and who will be handling your complaint or grievance. In Karachi’s economic zone in particular, legal entities are more concerned to report cases to this regulator—regulations and rules, they have more visibility to other people.
Karachi’s commercial fraud is handled by local police stations and agencies.
As a lawyer, I have been through different processes and interactions with my clients on this matter of handling fraud. I must confess, some of these deals with fraud, I had to deal with fraudulent activities. One that comes back to my head was this large commercial corporation which dealt with international import-exporting in our city. They did business without a clear regulatory frame of who their clients could trust; what measures they must implement to prevent fraudulent transactions. When an accountant from an associate company discovered unclaimed transactions for more than a hundred thousand rupees on monthly bank statements, they were caught off guard—this was their first ever case! Even when presented with enough documents to convince our government and legal bodies in Karachi that fraud existed, it took several months—to a year at maximum—to resolve such concerns of our clients who reported the suspected activities
